Update the panel

How to update the REVOTION app on your panel to the latest version.

New features arrive as app updates on your panel. You start it in settings, the panel downloads the new version over WiFi, and Android installs it. Your settings and paired devices remain intact.

What you need

  • WiFi: The panel is connected to a WiFi network. The guide Set up WiFi on the 4-inch panel shows you how.
  • A stable connection: The file is several hundred megabytes in size. If you use your smartphone's hotspot, the update will consume that data volume.
  • Power: The panel stays on until the update is complete.
  • Date and time: Both must be correct on the panel, otherwise it won't find an update.
01
Step 1

Open Settings

Open the side menu using the three lines at the top left.

Scroll down to the "General" section and tap Settings.

Step 2

Find the "App Update" line

Scroll down in Settings until you reach App Update. The line is in the "App & Device" group.

The panel automatically checks for a new version when you open settings.

  • If there's an update, the line shows the old and new version. Install appears on the right.
  • If Check for updates appears on the right, tap it. If the panel finds nothing new, the line shows the installed version and "Last checked". Then your panel is up to date.
  • Older versions show settings as a list. The button is also called Install there. If the panel is up to date, it says "Your app is up to date!".
  • The version numbers in the images are examples.

Step 3

Download the update

Tap Install. A circle with a percentage appears where the button was: The panel is downloading the new version.

This takes a few minutes depending on your WiFi. Keep the panel on and connected to WiFi during this time.

If the connection drops, Install appears again. Tap it again.

Step 4

Allow installation (first time only)

After downloading, Android takes over. On the first update, it says: "For security reasons, you cannot install unknown apps from this source on your phone."

This is normal. The REVOTION app can only install updates once you've allowed it.

  • Tap Settings.
  • ① Turn on Trust this source.
  • ② Tap the arrow at the top left. You'll go to the prompt from Step 5.
  • If the message doesn't appear, proceed directly to Step 5.

Tap Install. The installation takes a moment.

Step 6

Open the app and check the version

Android reports "App installed." Tap Open. The REVOTION interface starts in the new version.

Open Settings again and scroll to App Update. The new version and the time of the last check are now shown there.

Settings, the App Update row shows the installed version and Last checked, on the right the Check for update button
The line shows the new version.

Download updates automatically

Above the "App Update" line is the tile App Auto-Update. Turn it on if you want the panel to download new versions automatically.

  • The panel then checks at startup and every 24 hours thereafter to see if there's a new version, and downloads it without your intervention.
  • The Android prompt from Step 5 still appears. You confirm it with Install.

If something doesn't work

  • "No internet connection — could not check for updates.": The panel is not connected to WiFi. Tap WiFi Settings in the message and connect the panel.
  • "Update check failed. Please try again later.": The panel cannot reach the update server. Check that your WiFi has internet access and that the panel's date and time are correct. Then try again.
  • The circle stays still: The connection is too weak. Move closer to the router or hotspot with the panel and tap Install again.
  • "App was not installed.": Tap Done and start the update again. If the message persists, use the browser method or contact support.
  • BRAIN® and NODEs®: This update only affects the app on the panel. You update the BRAIN® and NODEs® separately, see How do I update my Brain?.
