Set up scenes and light groups
Switch multiple devices with one tap: eleven steps to your first scene and first light group.
With a scene, you can put multiple devices into a desired state with one tap, for example dimmed lights and fan off. A light group switches multiple lights together. This guide shows both using the example of the "Movie Night" scene and the "Living Area" light group.
What you need
- For scenes: Revotion app 1.2.14 or newer and BRAIN firmware 2.4.0 or newer.
- A connection to the BRAIN.
- At least one device that can be switched. For a light group, at least one light.
Open scenes
Open the side menu via the three lines at the top left and tap Scenes.
The entry is in the "System" section, between "Automations" and "Weekly Schedule".
Create new scene
You see your scenes, each with the number of devices it controls.
Tap the Plus at the top right.
The Brain Memory bar shows how many scenes your BRAIN is already storing. When it reaches ten, the memory is full. The plus button will disappear until you delete a scene.
Choose icon and name
In the editor, you set how the scene is named and what it looks like.
- ① Icon: Choose one of twelve icons. It will appear later on the tile.
- ② Name: Give the scene a name with up to 20 characters, for example "Movie Night".
- ③ Add capability: Opens the list of devices you can add to the scene.
Select device
The list shows all devices that the BRAIN can control in a scene, separated by lights and devices.
Under each device, you can see what can be adjusted: "On/Off only" or "On/Off + 2 values".
Tap the device, in the example Ambient Living Room.
Set state and light mood
First, choose at State whether the scene turns the device on or off. Each device in a scene needs a state.
For a light with color and brightness, you also set the light mood:
- ① Last used state switches the light on as it was last used. Fixed mood sets the same values every time.
- ② Color: Activate the dot and choose the color on the ring.
- ③ Brightness: Activate the dot and set the value with the arrows, in the example 50%.
- What you don't set, the device keeps. Tap Save.
Add more devices and save
The device now appears under Members, together with the state the scene establishes.
Via Add capability you add more devices, up to ten per scene. In the example, the scene also switches the roof fan off.
The X removes a device from the scene again.
Tap Save. The scene is now in the BRAIN and appears in the list.
Place scene on home screen
To start the scene with one tap, you place it as a tile on the home screen.
Open the side menu, tap Add widget and select the category Scenes.
Select tile
Each scene is available in three sizes: small, wide, and tall.
Tap the desired tile. It will be placed at the end of your home screen.
The window stays open so you can add more tiles right away. Close it when you're done.
Start scene
The tile shows the symbol and name of the scene.
- ① Start: Tap the icon. It lights up as long as the scene is active. Another tap on the icon turns it off again.
- Edit: A tap on the name or the empty area of the tile opens the scene in the editor.
- ② The tile below is a light group. The next two steps show you how to create it.
Create light group
A light group is a tile that switches multiple lights on and off together.
Open Add widget, select the category Lights and tap the tile All Lights.
The new tile initially contains all the lights in your system.
Select lights and name group
Tap the name of the tile on the home screen. Its settings open.
- ① Name: Tap the pencil, give the group its own name, for example "Living Area", and confirm with the checkmark.
- ② Selection: Tap each light that should not belong to the group. The dot disappears. At least one light must remain selected.
- Close the window. A tap on the large area of the tile now switches all lights in the group together.
Scene or light group?
- Scene: Puts various devices into a defined state, for example light on at 50% and fan off. It lives in the BRAIN and can also be used as an action in an automation.
- Light group: Switches multiple lights on and off together. It exists only as a tile on the home screen.
Edit or delete a scene
- Edit: Tap the scene in the "Scenes" section or tap the tile name on the home screen. You can adjust the icon, name, devices, and states.
- Delete: At the bottom of the editor you'll find Delete scene. If an automation uses the scene, the app will warn you first, because the automation will fail after that.
Good to know
- Scenes live in the BRAIN and not just in the app. Pull down the list in the "Scenes" section to refresh it.
- In an automation, you select a scene via Add action and Activate scene.
- For awnings and windows, you choose a direction instead of on and off: Open or Close.
- Outputs that are set as buttons cannot be switched by a scene. A pulse doesn't hold a state that the scene could establish.
- If the NODE configuration is protected in settings, scenes can still be activated but not edited.
- The info icon in the top right of the "Scenes" section starts a tour that explains the screen.
